Rick Warren Sends Congratulations to Start up Anglican Congregation in Philadelphia

By David W. Virtue

Dr. Rick Warren, the nation’s leading Protestant pastor and author of the best seller The Purpose Driven Life, sent a congratulatory e-mail to the newly installed priest at Christ Church Anglican in Philadelphia, Fr. Adam Rick, and to CANA Bishop Julian Dobbs, praising the church planting emphasis of the Anglican Church in North America.

Some 100 Anglicans met at Wayne United Methodist Church on Philadelphia’s historic mainline on Sunday to install Fr. Rick following a year of preparation, prayer and then calling Fr. Rick from Massachusetts to lead the new congregation.

The 40,000-member Saddleback pastor said, “On behalf of your brothers and sisters at Saddleback Church in California, and all of our congregations, we want you to know how proud we are of you on this great and exciting day. We’ve watched with great joy the new emphasis on church planting of ACNA, since I was privileged to attend and speak at its incorporation in Plano, Texas years ago.

“When I heard that Christ Church Anglican on the Mainline is officially opening with Fr. Rick, I just had to write and send our congratulations.

“We thank God for you, and pray that this new expression of the Body of Christ will grow deeper through worship, warmer through fellowship, stronger through discipleship, broader through ministry, and larger through evangelism and missions. We pray that your great commitment to the Great Commandment and the Great Commission will grow a great church in Philadelphia.

“Even the fact that you have shared a space with the Methodist is significant. Just as the Church of England was a renewal movement in Catholicism and Methodism was a renewal movement in Anglicanism, now your new ACNA congregation is bringing renewal and revival again to Anglicanism in America. We thank God for your unswerving commitment to the authority of Scripture and your desire to be a light for Christ in a culture that is increasingly dark.

“We love you and pray God’s best on you today.”
