“Darwin’s Doubt” by Dr. Stephen Meyer

evolution

I’ve just finished reading Dr. Stephen Meyer’s book, “Darwin’s Doubt”. When a theory no longer provides a comprehensive and coherent explanation for observable reality, it ceases to be a workable theory. Dr. Meyer has written a thorough and powerful explanation of the philosophical and scientific flaws in Darwinism/neoDarwinism that increasingly reveal it to be unworkable as a theory of origins. The question of origins is a historical question first and foremost. Science may make inferences based on contemporary observations but, however well grounded, they remain inferences.

Intelligent Design(ID) suggests that there is a better inference from the extant evidence with greater explanatory scope, namely that some kind of Intelligence lies behind the origin and development of life on earth. ID is gaining ground because 1. the evidenciary grounds upon which the inference of Darwinistic evolution is based, the fossil record, is in conflict with Darwin’s theory, 2. natural selection doesn’t provide a sufficient explanation the influx of new information required to transition from one species to another, and 3. the complexity of various life forms that arise suddenly in the fossil record is “irreducible” (meaning the necessary mutations could not have “gradually accumulated over time” because constituent “parts” are mutually dependent). Whether you agree with ID or not (and, admittedly, I am biased), Dr. Meyer has written one of the best arguments for ID and a fairly devastating assessment of Darwinism. Here’s an interview he did with RC Sproul:
